What's New in Emagination News...

Food Bank Fundraiser

Emagination Design was happy to help with the design of promotional materials for the "1st Tuesday Foodbank Fundraiser", an acoustic music concert series that raises money for the Comox Valley Food Bank on the first Tuesday of each month. Comox Valley musicians Judy and Bruce Wing provide an evening of acoustic music along with a monthly special guest at the Mex Pub in Courtenay. Admission is by non-perishable food or cash donations. Visit their website to find out who the next guest performer will be and the progress of their campaign. You can donate online through a CanadaHelps link on the homepage of their website. Please visit their site if you can help out by making an online donation.

New Books from Comox Valley Authors

On another note, our recent projects include an exciting new website launch for local author Janie Maximick. Her Paradise book series are now available online, along with the availability of a weekly taste of adventure from the Paradise RV Park characters. She's offering the first chapter free to introduce you to her quirky characters, so come and start your week with Janie!

Judy Norbury has a new book out called "Come Back, Judy Baba: Memoirs of India". This is a fascinating account of life in India through the eyes of two women, author Judy Norbury and her mother Mary Hargreaves Norbury. Mary's story is told first, and ends with the news that her young daughter has been diagnosed with polio. Years later, Judy goes on to tell her own story of becoming a world traveler despite the confines of a wheelchair and an inspiring international speaker for the disabled.

Comox Valley author and Registered Clinical Counsellor Esther Kane has a new book that will be soon be available called “It’s Not About the Food: A Woman’s Guide to Making Peace with Food and Our Bodies.”  This is Esther’s third book, which explores the relationship with food and our bodies, and how to make eating a more mindful and purposeful exercise instead of a reaction to emotions. We designed the cover and it was a rewarding project as the book contains  information that will be helpful for many people facing issues with food. It was also a lot of fun as Esther came with so many ideas, has a strong sense of design, and a very effervescent personality.  We wish both her and her readers great success!

Emagination Design sponsors Voices Three Concert

aThe third annual Voices Three concert was held at the Sid Williams Theatre on January 10th to help raise awareness and funds for the Comox Valley Hospice Society. The evening of music and comedy with Sue Pyper, Judy Wing and Helen Austin has been a fun addition to people's January calendars and was a lot of fun to participate in, both as a performer and as a sponsor. Voices Three were accompanied by Brad Hawkes from Victoria, Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion Patti Lamoureux, Bruce Wing, and Michael Schwarz and it was great to meet and work with a new configuration of musicians. It was also nice to see new faces in the audience, as well as the familiar faces that have supported the show in previous years (especially those who travel a considerable distance to be there). There are many promotional details to look after leading up to the show and now that it's over it feels like the new year is officially off and running. Now it's time to catch up on projects and make room for more new and exciting ventures.

December 2009

The Voices Three Concert is happening on January 10th at the Sid Williams Theatre and will again raise money for the Comox Valley Hospice Society. Sue performs along with Helen Austin and Judy Wing in this songwriting trio. Emagination Design is also pleased to be a sponsor, helping to promote awareness for the Comox Valley Hospice Society through this musical community event. Sue has also launched her second CD, "Tail Lights in the Rain" which is available from her website or if you're in the neighborhood of Tin Town, stop by the office to pick up a copy. She's getting quite a collection and also has copies available of recording artist clients Gordon Carter, Shearwater, Helen Austin, and Judy and Bruce Wing.

Sue Finishes Her First Half Marathon!

Sue Pyper - Royal Victoria Half Marathon ParticipantIn just four hours and eleven minutes Sue managed to cover 21 kms in the Royal Victoria Half Marathon along with 10,500 other participants. Sue has been diligently preparing for the event over the past eight months, walking 5 and 10 km routes several mornings a week. Her team of 4 women raised money for the Family Support Institute and judging by the day's photos and the residual laughter from her team mates, it was a great event to take part in.

October 4 - Tin Town Mystery Tour and Happening

Emagination Design on Rosewall Crescent, Courtenay, BCRosewall Crescent in Courtenay, BC is a unique community of businesses and residential apartments affectionately known as Tin Town. Emagination Design is located in Tin Town, along with a wide variety of businesses and several artisan studios. The artists of Tin Town held a special event on Saturday, October 4th that included a parade of colourful characters, hands-on art opportunities, a scavenger hunt tour of Tin Town businesses, and live entertainment! Emagination Design is pleased to be part of this creative business community and to participate in this event. The Freakin' Coffee Shop was a hub of the activity, and part of Emagination Design's contribution to the event included musical entertainment by Sue Pyper and Judy and Bruce Wing. It was a great turn out considering what looked like questionable weather.

Emagination Design does rebranding for the Women's Business Network

Women's Business Network Rebranding by Emagination Design

The Women's Business Network has a vibrant new look for it's marketing materials. It was a pleasure to work with such an enthusiastic Board of Directors and to donate graphic design services for this valuable community resource. The response from members who met on September 15th was very positive, and we are looking forward to a successful momentum for the group this year.

The monthly meetings provide a social atmosphere to network with friends and get to know the business women of the Comox Valley. A buffet dinner, cash bar, and door prizes provide a fun and welcoming atmosphere to hear spotlight and guest speakers who provide inspiration and information. A great place for women to develop and share the skills that grow successful businesses.

Emagination Design Nominated Business of the Year
Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Community Awards

Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Community Awards with Sharon Anderson from the Balancing Act, and Judy and Bruce WingEmagination Design was thrilled to be one of three finalists for the "New Business of the Year Award " presented at the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Community Awards that were held on January 26, 2008. The criteria for the New Business category called for local businesses that had been in business less than 4 years, had experienced growth and had contributed to the community. The award was presented to The Old House Village Suites and Hotel, but we were very pleased to have been selected as one of the finalists. The red carpet gala event was certainly well attended by the business community, the food was great, and it was also fun for us to be able to cheer on Karen McKinnon of McKinnon Photography whose business was nominated for an award in the category of Professional Merit.

Emagination Design Launches New Website!

We started the new year with a new website launch and a contest for a pair of tickets to the Voices Three concert. We want to congratulate our winner, Lisa Markin whose favourite sites in the Emagination Design web portfolio were the Crawford Studios and Doug Zilkie sites. Lisa won a pair of tickets to the Voices Three concert, and judging by her email, it sounds like she thoroughly enjoyed the show!

"BRAVO- BRAVO- BRAVO BRAVO 3!!!! WOW, what a show!!!! Sue, Judy and Helen:Just wanted you to know we thoroughly enjoyed your concert!!!! Not knowing what to expect, or having any expectations, we were entertained beyond belief!!!! You are all extremely talented musicians…..and what a range of voices and talents!"

Emagination Design Sponsors Fundraiser for Comox Valley Hospice Society

Emagination Design sponsors Voices Three ConcertThe Voices Three concert at the Sid Williams Theatre on January 12th was a great success! The show was a sell out, and raised $6000 and awareness for the Comox Valley Hospice Society. As you probably know, both Sue and Judy Wing were performers in the musical concert along with Helen Austin and our back up band Trent Freeman, Bruce Wing and Brad Hawkes. It was a fun evening of music and antics, a few of which are available for viewing at the Voices Three website. A live recording of the event entitled "Live and Unleashed" is also available for sale on their website. Emagination Design and Wing Creative were among the twelve business sponsors for this annual event. The Comox Valley Hospice Society provides much needed support services to the dying, their caregivers, and the bereaved so if you missed the concert, it's not too late to give a donation to support this important community resource. Contact their office at (250) 339-5533 for more information.
